Individuals committed to making the world a better place are needed now more than ever. The challenges and opportunities of the 21st century demand a new and enlightened form of leadership which understands and acts on the imperative of sustainability and the wisdom of 'less is more'.
To be effective leaders, students need the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that will empower them to break out of the 'box' created by expectations, perceptions and assumptions. Sea to Sky's Leadership School, which many participants have described as the most powerful learning experience in their high school years, subscribes to the 3R's — real, relevant and revolutionary.
Real means authentic — in living, learning and community. It is beyond 'cool'. Relevant means useful, as if our future mattered. The trivial gives way to the important. The silly gives way to the meaningful. Revolutionary questions the status quo, challenges assumptions and is bullish for change that creates a better world. Together these three words produce a tight community of learners that are honest, exuberant, playful and supportive.
Leadership School is a four day event that is now offered once a year in the fall. An invitation to participate is extended in September to schools throughout the lower mainland. Watch for details.
